Kia ora -welcome to Waikite Valley School

We are a decile 10 country school situated in a picturesque valley 26km South-East of Rotorua.

The English translation of the Maori word ‘Waikite’ means ‘water experience’. We are fortunate to be surrounded by several beautiful lakes, thermal waters and hot springs and the famous Waikite Valley Hot Pools. The Paeroa Ranges dominant the landscape and are a breathtaking sight on a clear day.

The strong rural community is made up of dairy and sheep farmers and lifestyle blocks. It is very supportive with an excellent parent and community base.

At the heart of Waikite Valley is our school – come and see us!

General Information

We have four permanent and well resourced classrooms catering from Years 0-8. We are proud of the low numbers in our 4 classes.

  • We have an experienced, vibrant and high quality teaching staff.
  • The BOT partially fund a 5th teacher. This allows the Principal to be released from a classroom to focus on role of managing the school as well releasing teachers in all classrooms for 2 days of Ministry of Education funded classroom release time each term.
  • The school has magnificent grounds with excellent facilities including a well maintained, modern automated comprehensive library, large all weather astro turf, swimming pool, playground and extensive playing fields. We are well resourced with computers, lap tops and data projectors.
  • The ethnic make up of the school is approximately 25% Maori and 75% Pakeha/European.
The school is the centre of the community and enjoys the strength it brings to the area. We have an onsite playcentre and enjoy a long and positive relationship with the centre.
